Paul Aikens

Founder & Owner

Michigan Licensed Residential Builder

Every roofing company will tell you what they do. Paul Aikens built Stellar to guarantee it.

Paul learned the trade the only way it can truly be learned: on the roof. He never left it. Most owners in this industry can't say that.

For more than twenty years he has stayed on the roof deliberately, learning early on from the very best in the industry, with one goal: to become one of the very best where it actually matters. Designing and engineering complete roof systems, complex and cost-effective alike, from small projects to extremely large scale. Running the sales process from first conversation to signed contract. Planning, managing, and executing every job with precision and diligence. Developing custom solutions for problem areas and architectural flaws. And working at a level most of the trade never touches: altering the building science of the structure itself. Mitigating ice dams. Managing how heat, moisture, and structural stress move through a roofing system, and steering those forces away from the flashings and components they would otherwise quietly destroy, the slow failures that become leaks years before anyone sees them coming.

He is a builder and roofer by trade, a Michigan Licensed Residential Builder, and what the industry calls a master artisan roofer, certified by GAF, CertainTeed, and Mule-Hide across both residential and commercial applications. In 2012 he earned his builder's license and founded what is now known as Stellar Roofing Company.

That knowledge was not read in a how-to manual, though he has read those too, and holds the certifications to prove it. His was earned through thousands and thousands of hands-on installations, repairs, and diagnoses: enough repetitions to know not just several ways that work, but exactly how everything works, what everything takes, how long it honestly takes, and what is reasonable to expect. He lived this industry's pain points from inside other companies for the first decade of his roofing career. The second decade has been spent predominantly direct to consumer, building the answer to them.

Paul still works the roof. Deliberately, intentionally, a couple dozen jobs a year to this day, repairs, smaller projects, and full installations alike, because it keeps his skills sharp, and because after several thousand roofs, being up on one is honestly therapeutic. He holds a conviction about this: to be called a roofer, you have to be installing roofs. The moment you stop, you were a roofer. That is a classification he intends to keep for as long as he owns this company.

That engineering is the company. In an industry where hiring a contractor too often means rolling the dice, Stellar was built to remove the dice entirely. Systems of accountability at every level. Processes that ensure nothing is missed and nothing is forgotten. A guaranteed experience and guaranteed performance, not as a slogan, but as the designed output of a company constructed backward from that promise, for both homeowners and commercial building owners who expect it kept.

Ask Paul about growth and you will hear the conviction that separates Stellar from the market: zero fixation on becoming bigger, total fixation on becoming better. This company will never measure itself by volume sold or product purchased. It measures itself by a harder standard: whether every client receives a five-star experience from first conversation to final walkthrough, delivered through solutions engineered in-house from decades of hands-on expertise, at a level of quality most companies could not reach at any price, offered below what it would cost them to try.

The standard extends past the roofline. At Stellar, everyone owns their position, takes pride in their work, their company, and their clients, and builds each other up daily. That culture is not an accident. It is the product, and Paul holds it to the same tolerance as everything else the company builds.

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
Proverbs 22:1
Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
Matthew 7:24–25
The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.
